Putting Race on the Table:
Working Multiculturally
An Invitation
You are invited to join a cohort of faculty and staff in a yearlong learning experience entitled Putting Race on the Table: Working Multiculturally.
This learning experience will have direct application to your practice and will enhance your knowledge, skill and will to ensure greater educational equity among all members of the community served by your school.
The school is poised to go deeper into the area of educational equity both inside and outside of the classroom. Throughout this experience, we will address aspects of identity such as age, culture, class, ethnicity, family structure, faith, language learning styles, gender, gender identity, geography, immigration status, perceived ability and sexual orientation, through the lens of race as we enhance our practice in working multiculturally.
Focus Areas
Through on-site and on-line sessions, we will further develop our skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Noticing Patterns of Power and Privilege in our classrooms, offices and in five (5) school-based domains.
Putting Race on the Table in our conversations and our curriculum.
Learning from History to understand the roots of racism and other forms of oppression
Checking our Systems for Equity and Inequity
Recognizing and Removing Barriers to Equality
Changing our Systems to Ensure Equity
Building on Cultural Assets and Strengths of students, families, colleagues and communities
Connecting Race to other aspects of identity as we engage in culturally–responsive and equity–centered interactions with each other on a daily basis.
Moving from the Incidental to the Intentional in addressing, advancing and advocating for equity in all areas of our responsibility.
Embedding Critically-Examined and Culturally Rich Content in our curriculum
Developing an Anti-Racist Climate across the school.
Making the Learning Visible as we expand our conversations from what is taught to what is learned.
Resources
We will tap into your experiences as a major resource in this course. Research articles and videos will be introduced as relevant. The following five items will be essential resources throughout the year.

Cohort Process:
Each member of the cohort will set a personal goal for the year. This goal can be anything from looking at a particular aspect of the curriculum to creating a more inclusive classroom/office environment to managing difficult conversations about gender, race, sexual orientation etc.
Each member will meet individually with Enid throughout the year, either in person or through Skype sessions.
Participants will meet as a group once a month either through Skype or on-site throughout the year to reflect on lessons learned along the way.
Members of the cohort will present and share their work with the larger faculty/staff.
Think of Enid of Enidlee Consultants as your personal coach and the cohort as your professional growth team for the year!
Welcome!
